The POINTS of contact team visited the Architecture Biennale in Venice yesterday and today. Here are our first impressions from Arsenale:
Commissioner: Canadian Council for the Arts
Curator: Gerald McMaster, David Fortin
Collaborator: Douglas Cardinal Architect
UNCEDED: VOICES OF THE LAND
Organic lines are guiding the visitor through nature, structures and spaces. Light effects and a mix of MTV effects from outer space provide the background for people who explain and communicate.
Commissioner: Culture Ireland
Curators: Jeffrey Bolhuis, Jo Anne Butler, Miriam Delaney, Tara Kennedy, Laurence Lord, Orla Murphy
Stories of small towns, direct communication among each other, regional products, small quantities, traceable pricing… the Irish contribution combines marketplace, market stall, and kiosk-life-style and leads back to the new Freespace.
Commissioner: Cristobal Molina – Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage of Chile
Curator: Alejandra Celedon
STADIUM: AN EVENT, A BUILDING AND A CITY
On September 29, 1979, 37,000 workers from all over Santiago filled the Chilean National Stadium. The occasion was not a music or sports event, but a propaganda event of the military regime. The exhibition consists of a miniature stadium made out of several blocks of cement which show urban-planning structures.
